Michelle Bachmann has a funny way of saying “Happy Ramadan.”
Last week, the Minnesota congresswoman disclosed that she and four of her Republican colleagues had sent a letter to federal agencies asking for the investigation of what she believes is the significant infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood into American government, most namely the State Department.
Well, I’m saying “significant infiltration.” The phrase she used in an interview was “deep penetration,” and frankly, that is an unfair expression to use about any Muslim group. Muslims don’t believe in any kind of penetration unless it’s between a man and a woman in the holy confines of marriage.
Now, Ms. Bachmann goes on to name names. She singles out Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s chief aide Huma Abedin, a Muslim-American woman who has worked her way into Mrs. Clinton’s inner circle. Abedin is said to be one of Mrs. Clinton’s closest assistants and confidantes, currently serving as her deputy chief of staff. In the letter to the State Department, Bachmann accuses Abedin’s father, mother, and brother of having ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. She offers no evidence in her letter. But why should she? After all, Huma is a practicing Muslim working in American government. There’s at least a 50% chance she’s a spy.
Abedin started her career as a young intern in the Clinton White House in 1996. One might recall that there was another intern who had also “deeply penetrated” American government at that time, but it wasn’t Huma Abedin.
Of course, tying Muslims to extremism and terrorism with no proof is nothing new for those of us who live in America. We’ve seen the controversy around the “Ground Zero Mosque” in New York where opponents have attempted unsuccessfully to halt its construction. And we’ve heard of the storm surrounding the building of a mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where many Christian activists there are waging a jihad against it. Yes, there are Muslims in Tennessee. They’re everywhere!
In Murfreesboro, community activists have been proud to voice their displeasure with Islam, even filing lawsuits claiming it is not a religion, and therefore not protected by the Constitution like Christianity. They lost their case, but one opponent of the mosque told CNN she got her message across, because she “just wanted to show Muslims they are not welcome in Murfreesboro.” The construction site has been vandalized several times, including the burning of construction equipment, hateful graffiti, and a bomb threat last September. It’s a good thing those “activists” in Tennessee are Christians. If not, they might have to deal with ugly name-calling.
Of course, Christian Americans can do almost anything without dealing with outrageous labels. The Muslim guy who burns the french fries at McDonald’s ends up on Fox News.
This is the world Huma Abedin has to live in. Lucky for her, there are many people in American government who do hire and promote people based on merit. And of course, she has achieved much in her professional career because she is definitely not a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. In fact, a couple of years ago, Huma married Jewish-American congressman Anthony Weiner. Yes, that Anthony Weiner, the guy who tweeted his private parts to numerous women, embarrassing himself and eventually resigning in shame. This humiliation must have infuriated and mortified Huma. And if I know anything about Muslim women, that house is not currently the scene of any “deep penetration.”
